Family law attorney Katheryn HaasKatheryn Haas – Family Law Attorney | Raleigh, NC

Katheryn Haas is an Associate Attorney in the Raleigh office of McIlveen Family Law Firm, where she practices exclusively in family law. With experience representing clients throughout the Triangle, Katheryn brings a thoughtful, strategic approach to cases involving divorce, separation, child custody, child support, alimony, equitable distribution, and other complex family law matters.

Katheryn understands that a family law case is rarely just a legal problem. Decisions made during a separation, custody dispute, or divorce can affect a client's children, finances, home, and future for years to come. She works closely with her clients to understand what matters most to them, explain their options clearly, and develop a strategy designed to protect both their immediate interests and their long-term goals.

Strategic Advocacy with a Practical Approach

Katheryn believes effective family law representation requires both strong advocacy and sound judgment. Not every disagreement needs to become a courtroom battle, but some cases require an attorney who is prepared to litigate.

Whether negotiating a settlement or advocating before the court, Katheryn approaches each case with careful preparation, attention to detail, and a clear understanding of her client's objectives. She strives to resolve disputes efficiently when possible while remaining ready to advocate firmly when litigation is necessary.

Her goal is simple: help clients make informed decisions during an uncertain time and move forward with a solution that protects what matters most.

North Carolina Roots and a Passion for Advocacy

Raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Katheryn has deep roots in the state and a strong connection to the communities she serves.

She graduated cum laude from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, earning a bachelor's degree in English Literature with double minors in Political Science and Journalism. Her interdisciplinary studies strengthened the skills that would later become central to her legal career: analyzing complex information, communicating persuasively, and understanding the many perspectives involved in a dispute.

Katheryn went on to earn her Juris Doctor from Campbell Law School, where she intentionally focused her legal education on family law.

Building a Career in Family Law

Katheryn began developing her family law experience before she ever graduated from law school. She interned with family law firms and gained hands-on litigation experience through the Gailor Family Law Litigation Clinic, where she developed practical skills in courtroom advocacy, case preparation, and working directly with clients facing difficult family transitions.

After law school, Katheryn chose to continue focusing her career on family law. Before joining McIlveen Family Law Firm, she practiced in Durham, North Carolina, representing clients in a wide range of domestic matters.

That experience strengthened her skills both inside and outside the courtroom and reinforced something Katheryn had already come to understand: successful family law representation requires more than knowing the law. It requires understanding the people, relationships, financial concerns, and emotions behind each case.

Compassionate Counsel During Difficult Transitions

Clients often come to a family law attorney during one of the most stressful periods of their lives. Katheryn approaches that responsibility with compassion, responsiveness, and candor.

She believes clients deserve an attorney who will listen carefully, communicate clearly, and give practical advice—even when the answer may not be the one they hoped to hear. By helping clients understand both the legal landscape and the potential consequences of their choices, Katheryn empowers them to make informed decisions about their families and their futures.

Whether working toward a negotiated resolution or preparing a case for court, Katheryn remains focused on achieving meaningful, lasting solutions while minimizing unnecessary conflict whenever possible.

Outside the Office

When she isn't practicing law, Katheryn enjoys spending time with her cat, trying new crafts, and practicing hot yoga.
